Musculocutaneous Nerve Injury

Definition:
Damage, harm, or loss to the musculocultaneous nerve particularly as the result of external force.

Symptoms
  • Weakness of elbow flexion and supination of the forearm
  • Decreased biceps reflex
  • Decreased sensation on the outside of forearm
Causes
  • Compression due to hypertrophy or entrapment between the biceps aponeurosis and brachialis fascia
  • Injured through stretch as occurs in dislocations and sometimes in surgery
  • Stretched during a throwing injury
  • Wearing a heavy backpack
Treatment
  • ROM and strethching
  • Soft tissue massage
  • Upper extremity strengthening
