Rib Pain

Definition:
An unpleasant sensation in the rib associated with actual or potential tissue damage, and mediated by specific nerve fibers to the brain, where its conscious appreciation may be modified by various factors.

Symptoms
  • Pain in the rib cage with movement or without movement
  • Sharp pain upon breathing in or when moving into a certain position
  • Pain could be sharp, dull, or achy felt at and below the chest and above the navel on either side
  • It may occur after an obvious injury or without explanation
