Tendinitis/Bursitis Ankle

Definition:
Inflammation of the tendons/bursas attached to the ankle.

Symptoms
  • Pain with walking
  • Loss of ROM in the ankle
  • Pain or tenderness in the back of the ankle
  • Worse at the beginning of exercise, or when running uphill
  • Pain when wearing shoes
  • Redness and warmth
  • Swelling on the back of the heel
Causes
  • Pressure on your ankle and heels- running or exercising on uneven ground
  • Poorly fitting shoes that constantly rub against the heel
  • Direct, hard hit to your heel
  • Infection
  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Gout
  • Overusing your ankles- repeating motions are running, walking, or jumping

  • Lower extremity strengthening
