Definition:
Complete or incomplete separation of a portion of joint cartilage and underlying bone of the ankle; Isolated loss of blood flow to a portion of the talus bone.

  • Ischemia (restriction of blood flow)
  • Hereditary
  • Endocrine factors
  • Avascular necrosis (loss of blood flow)
  • Rapid growth
  • Deficiencies and imbalances in the ratio of calcium to phosphorus
  • Anomalies of bone formation
Treatment
  • Period of immobilization
  • ROM and stretching
  • Ankle stabilization strengthening
  • Lower extremity strengthening exercise
  • Possible surgical intervention
